A focused foundation for aviation education and preservation.

The MAAM Foundation is located in Liberal, Kansas and is the founder of the Mid-America Air Museum . The foundation also supports aviation and aerospace education beyond Liberal, including the Cosmosphere in Hutchinson, Kansas . The foundation fosters aviation advancement through education, restoration, grants, and community engagement.

Preservation & Facilities

Save the Hangar

Save the Hangar supports preservation work tied to Liberal's aviation history and the facilities that help keep that story visible for future generations. Hangar and site preservation protects more than a building; it protects the setting where aviation history, education, restoration, and community memory come together.

Preserving Aviation History

The effort helps maintain a physical connection to Liberal's aviation heritage and the history surrounding the Mid-America Air Museum.

Liberal AirFair 2025

MAAM Foundation helped support Liberal AirFair 2025 so families across the region could enjoy a major aviation event free of charge. Hosted at the Mid-America Air Museum in Liberal, the October 4, 2025 event brought aviation directly to the public with daytime and evening shows, aerobatics, a fighter jet demonstration, a jet car versus airplane race, food vendors, a kids zone, skydiving, and helicopter rides.

Free Public Access

Foundation support helped keep the air show free to the public, giving families an affordable way to experience aviation, museum activity, and live air show performances close to home.

Aviation Programming

Visitors experienced a full slate of aviation attractions, including aerobatics, fighter jet demonstrations, skydiving, helicopter rides, and a jet car versus airplane race.

Family Activities

Food vendors and a kids zone helped make the AirFair a full-day community event for families, students, aviation fans, and first-time visitors.

Liberal Recreation Department

LEGO Open Build and Robotics Programs

The Liberal Recreation Department hosts ongoing LEGO Open Build sessions and STEAM-focused LEGO and robotics camps at the Recreation Center, located at 950 S Grant Ave. These programs give kids and families affordable access to creative building, coding, robotics, and themed hands-on learning.

LEGO Open Build

Weekly sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, with giant bricks, Duplos, and traditional LEGO pieces. Cost is $2 per session.

LEGO & Robotics Camps

STEAM-focused programs for children ages 3 and up, teaching creative building, coding skills, and robotics concepts.

Special Themed Events

The LEGO room hosts themed sessions throughout the year, including Star Wars Day, transportation events, and National LEGO Day.

Community Free-Play

The Liberal Memorial Library also hosts intermittent free-play LEGO afternoons for children and families.

Community Aviation Outreach

Run, Drive, Fly to Lakin

MAAM Foundation also supported Run, Drive, Fly to Lakin, a 2023 airshow in Lakin, Kansas. The event encouraged people to connect with aviation whether they arrived by foot, by road, or by air, helping make aviation more approachable for families, students, pilots, and community members.

Accessible Aviation

The airshow format invited broad participation, giving people multiple ways to take part and experience local aviation culture.

Regional Connection
